Investigative Methodology A

This course will outline the fundamentals of doing research, aimed primarily, but not exclusively, at the graduate level and at research in and for the classroom. The course offers an understanding of research approaches and skills, and an ability to deploy them in your studies or in your professional lives. In particular, this course will aid in conducting research as part of your studies, as part of your professional life and as additional support for self-improvement by offering writing, research and analytical skills. In addition, students will learn how to properly cite material used in literature research. Finally, students will conduct their own literature research on a topic of their choice and complete a paper describing their findings with analysis and conclusions with a bibliography according to APA rules.

Elocution A

This course will outline the fundamentals of the art of careful and public speaking, using clear pronunciation and good breathing to control the voice. The course offers an understanding of how to project to a large audience or classroom, read aloud with clarity and confidence and enunciate words with proper emphasis. Classic speeches will be analyzed for structure and delivery. In addition, students will learn how to use inflection to stress important points, adopt correct posture and utilize gesture to keep an audience engaged. We will focus on how to organize and structure a presentation, define its specific objectives, and develop individual style and confidence in communicating its message. The goal is to give each student the experience of uniting knowledge, feeling, and purpose into an authentic and persuasive performance.

Composition I A

This is the first of the two courses in composition in PEM en Inglés. Students will go through the writing process so that they are able to choose an appropriate topic, recognize different types of writing, organize ideas, and write simple and complex sentences and paragraphs. Finally, they will apply the revision process to correct whole paragraphs, text structure and its separate elements in order to make it interesting, grammatical accurate and comprehensible.
